local produce

I have fallen in love with kale. And leeks. And veggies. And the farmers market. Today was the fourth week in a row that I've gone to the Bellingham Farmers Market and picked up some local produce. It's really fun now because I know my favorite vendors, I have my little routine, and I chat with some friends while I walk around. I'm a farmers market convert for sure and I don't think I'll ever go back. It's hard to picture my Saturday mornings without a walk to the market!
I actually compared local kale prices at the farmers market to prices at Haggen's and the Haggen's kale was about a dollar more expensive and from California.

Unfortunately, eating local means no tomatoes yet, which is kind of a deal breaker for me so I do nip into the grocery store every now and then. I can't wait until they start having those big heirloom tomatoes at the market!
Dreaming of summer produce, I'll keep you posted on the tomato status at the market.
