sustainable business educations

This article on GreenBiz about how university business schools aren't teaching enough sustainability really hit home for me. I'm studying Business and Sustainability as an undergraduate at Western Washington University so I obviously am exposed to sustainable business classes. It is disappointing to be hit yet again with the realization that this isn't the norm at most colleges. The article reiterated what I hear in all of my classes, businesses NEED to move towards sustainability because of the current climate crisis.
I thought the author made an excellent observation when she said that businesses aren't moving fast enough towards sustainability because we're not teaching sustainable practices to future business leaders. The problem is a lack of sustainability education in business classes before students go out into the business world. I would actually go further and say that the root of the problem is lack of sustainability and climate change education in grade school, before young people even get close to a university. There is definitely a fundamental problem with how our society, in the US, thinks about climate change and without properly educating children sustainability will continue to be an afterthought.

I came to Western because of their Business and Sustainability degree and I honestly believe that one day this degree will merge into the only business degree we need. Everyone leaving college should think about how their actions impact society and the environment, there's still a long way to go though.
